Community Snake Training
An educational in-person event series to learn all about snake behavior, identification, and how to recreate safely in snake country
Join Us for Community Snake Training!
This free community event series is brought to you in part by the South Okanagan Community Foundation! Come learn about all seven snake species in the South Okanagan, the best ways to identify a rattlesnake, what to do in the event of a snake bite, and how to recreate safely in snake country!
This event is free for South Okanagan residents (bring proof of ID). Attendees will gather in the theater at the NK'Mip Desert Cultural Centre and attend a presentation from our resident snake biologist.
This presentation will adress...
- Snake species found in the South Okanagan
- How to identify a rattlesnake and common ID mistakes
- What to do in the event of a snake encounter
- How to encourage a snake to move (without touching it)
- What to do in the event of a snake bite
We will also show off our interpretive snakes so that you can see a rattlesnake and gopher snake side by side! This event is targetted towards anyone living in snake country that wants to learn how to peacefully co-exist with our free rodent control residents. Post presentation, attendees are welcome to explore and check out the Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre!
NOTE: This presentation will not cover how to pick up and relocate a snake. Snake relocations should be avoided at all cost due to the detrimental effect on animal well-being
