What is In Our Own Voice?
This program is all about humanizing mental health, connecting around shared lived experiences, and learning from community members in a respectful, supportive space.
The presentation is designed to be casual, conversational, and bring the experience of living with a mental health condition "off the page" and "out of the doctor's office." This is the essence of the NAMI SF mission - grassroots, peer support programs.
In June, LGBTQ+ identifying community members will share about their experiences of living with a mental health condition(s) and navigating their sexual orientation. Speakers will discuss in an honest way who they are, where they've been, the challenges and successes along the way, and their journey to where they are now. All in the name of destigmatizing mental health, identifying sources of support, and putting a name and face to a condition(s).
The presenters will share:
What Happened - their origin story and when they first developed symptoms
What Helps - coping strategies and self-care, treatment, and other supports
What's Next - reflections on their journey with a mental health condition(s)
This program is part of NAMI SF x LGBTQ+ Mental Health, an event series focusing on LGBTQ+ mental health in June. We invite you to attend additional programs:
LGBTQ+ Roundtable: Queer Youth Mental Health (Thursday, June 20)
