Mind Waves is a Glasgow charity that supports people to share their stories through creative approaches, empowering them to develop new skills and tend to their wellbeing. Our weekly Community Jam sessions are a free relaxed daytime open mic style event. After some taster sessions in 2024 we are delgihted that weekly Community Jam sessions have been made possible by the GCVS Glasgow Wellbeing Fund.
Anyone is welcome to share songs, spoken word pieces, stories, thoughts or simply come to enjoy the music and words with a cuppa and some good company! There will also be opportunities for group songwriting or other collaborative projects depending on what emerges each week.
Our first session takes place on Thursday 24th April from 11.am-12.30pm at Project Ability, Glasgow. We have an electric piano, two guitars, two ukuleles and hand percussion available to share. Participants are welcome to bring their own instruments (but absolutely fine just to bring yourself!). Tea and coffee are provided.
This idea came from volunteers and participants from our various peer le groups. People wanted somewhere to share their music and writing and connect with others during the day, to build routine and support their wellbeing. They also weren't keen on venues which focussed around alcohol culture. And so Community Jam Sessions were born!
