Question 1

What do I need to bring to a sacred fire?

Accepted Answer

Mostly yourself and your willingness to share about your life! Also bring poems, songs, and stories. Wear casual clothing that is suitable for sitting around the fire. The way to the council house is lit, but a headlamp can also be handy! Drinks (non-alcoholic) and snacks are okay too.

Is it okay to bring kids or animals?

Accepted Answer

No. Not that we don't love kids and animals! We have found that animals can get excited around the fire and be distracting. An exception is made for service animals. Young people (less than high school age) tend to make adults less likely to share openly.

Question 3

Do I need to stay until the very end?

Accepted Answer

Fires generally last 2 - 3  hours and we encourage people to stay until the end, but it is not required.

Question 4

I have my own spiritual practice or tradition. Will a sacred fire somehow be at odds with them?

Accepted Answer

No, not at all. Fire–as heart–is at the core of almost all traditions. You can be Christian, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, etc. – and you will find that attending a sacred fire is a nice support for that tradition and its practices.

Can I bring a friend?

Certainly! Just be sure to have them RSVP so we have an idea of how many will be attending.

Question 6

What happens if it rains?

Accepted Answer

Unless the weather is particularly severe (high winds or otherwise unsafe driving conditions) we will meet as the fires take place in our covered council house.
