Community Clergy Program

The SAM Center was founded in March 2015 to assist local heroes and their families. We are a community of veterans and military supporters helping each other. We formed out of the belief that we can make the lives of service members, veterans and their widows better. The SAM Center collaborates with other community agencies to ensure programs are not being duplicated, while the gap in assistance is being filled. The facility was remodeled by the Founding Fathers and caring volunteers. Local businesses, including the Home Depot, and volunteers donated all materials.Stark County has never had a veterans stand down. It is time for our communities of believers to come together to support our veterans. The Stand Down scheduled for November 2nd will have all areas of veterans' assistance in one place. It is the SAM Center's mission to assist our veterans and this event will assist hundreds.

Clergy and elder training on VA resources

Seating for this training is LIMITED, so please REGISTER now to RESERVE your seat. One in four reach out to their clergy prior to a crisis event. Do you have the tools necessary to assist them? Do you know of veterans&#x27; healthcare benefits? Are you aware of compensation, pension and caregiver benefits? What are our community resources and how would you access them? 

Many Veterans and their families seek help for the life concerns from clergy because they feel the faith community can provide anonymity, confidentiality, and a stigma free environment. Yet, clergy members sometimes have limited knowledge about military culture and readjustment issues. Clergy are often unfamiliar with unique health concerns such as post-traumatic stress, depression, traumatic brain injury and other issues faced by many returning warriors. This event is designed to prepare clergy and concerned persons to better meet the readjustment needs of Veterans in your community and places of worship. 

The Community Clergy Training Program offers critical resources to educate and support the faith community. 

Training Topics will include: 
1. Conflicts between Civilian and Military Culture
2. Actions Clergy can take to assist Veterans/ Service Members and their families with healthy adjustment to civilian life.
3. Common military events that may cause adjustment disorders
4. Identifying the relationship between spirituality and meaning making. 
5. The importance of personal narrative; past, present, future. 
6. Identifying pastoral responses and resources for clergyLocal organizations will be on hand to provide quick briefings on services and benefits that are available. The SAM Center will be open for tours and to provide information on our services and programs. 

Registration / Check-in will be from 7:30 to 8:30. The session will begin at 8:30. 

8:30 -12:00 - Military Culture and Wounds of War

12:00-12:30 - boxed Lunches

12:30 - 3:00 - Pastoral Care to Veterans and Their Families
