Communicating science

TranSkills is a follow-up initiative of the Eduworks-Network, an EU Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) Project. Our team has vast experience in organizing researcher training, summer schools, workshops and other events in the academic and corporate environment.Transkills open courses is a series of 4 courses around Europe with top class trainers, aimed to social science researchers helping them acquiring skills crucial to be successful in academia, while also providing them a great opportunity to meet fellow researchers.

Transkills

Course outline: This workshop aims to provide researchers with necessary knowledge and skills to communicate their research to the wider public. Researchers learn first-hand from an experienced journalist how to publish their research in newspapers to reach non-academic audiences. The workshop also familiarizes students with social media channels such as Twitter, which can serve as a tool for communicating research ideas and findings.
Trainer: Dr. Stefano Ceccon is a data journalist at The Times and The Sunday Times and a senior data scientist at News UK. He holds a PhD in data mining and machine learning from Brunel University, London, and has worked for 2 years as a post-doctoral researcher at City University, London, before joining News UK. As a journalist, he contributed to international stories such as the Doping Scandal and the Tax Avoidance investigations. As a researcher, he has published several papers and presented at major machine learning conferences.

For this course, the minumum attandence requirement is 10 participants! Below 10 registered participants the course will be canceled, and all registered participants will receive a full refund. 
Travel and Accommodation:

Marie Curie Alumni Association members can apply for a 400 EUR micro-grant, which can cover travel and accomodation costs for this course. The application should be registered on the MCAA website.
IMPORTANT that applicants should not book any flight or accommodation in relation to this event before the organisers confirm their participation! This confirmation is different from the Eventbrite confirmation about the payment and comes when the number of course registrations reaches the minimum requirement (10 participants), but no later than 30 calendar days before the course!
