Braver Angels Workshop: Immigration - Finding Common Ground

Braver Angels Workshop: Immigration - Finding Common Ground

Overview

Join this workshop led by Braver Angels and find common values across political divides!

One of the most contentious issues our country has been dealing with is immigration. In 2025, Braver Angels started a process to look for common ground on immigration issues across the political divide. So far over 40 workshops and 16 debates have been held across the country.

Join us on Sunday June 26 for a common ground workshop at 19 Carter where we will discuss the values, concerns, and potential solutions. We need an equal number of participants (4 to 8 of each) on the "pro" (promoting immigration and supporting immigrants) and the "con" (desiring to manage and control the amount of immigration the country can support) side of the issue to take a deep dive into the issue and work to find some common ground.

Goals:

  • To delve into the single issue of immigration and learn the other side's perspective
  • To investigate areas of common ground, common values and points of agreement
  • To learn something that might be helpful to others in our community and the nation

Logistics:

There are two ways to join a Common Ground Workshop:

  • Participant: A participant will engage in small- and large-group discussions with individuals of both the same and different political persuasions. Participants must identify as "pro" or "con". We will strive for an equal balance of participants: 4 to 8 people on each side.
  • Observer/Alternate: An observer/alternate will not participate in the discussions directly but will have the opportunity to watch and listen. Observers/Alternates should be ready to step in and participate in the event of participant cancellations.
  • Who can come? Anyone interested in developing a deeper understanding of, and connection with, people whose views on immigration policy differ from their own. You should honestly be able to answer "yes" to the following question:

"Are you willing to listen to the other side, and are you willing to speak to the other side with respect?"

Everyone who signs up will receive a confirmation email from an organizer.
