Please join the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Prevention of Genocide (OSAPG) and the Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights for an event launching the new UN policy paper, “Combating Holocaust and Genocide Denial: Protecting Survivors, Preserving Memory, and Promoting Prevention.” This new resource provides guidance for national governments, the United Nations system, and other relevant actors, including social media companies, to respond effectively to these phenomena using a victim-centered and human rights-based approach, consistent with the United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech. It is comprehensive and holistic, concerning not only recognizing and condemning Holocaust and genocide denial and distortion but also combating these phenomena through law, online, and through education and preventing them through memorialization and other transitional justice measures.

The event will feature expert and practitioner reflections on the new policy paper and recommendations for its effective implementation and will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss how the policy paper can aid stakeholders in responding expeditiously to contemporary instances of Holocaust and genocide denial and distortion.
