Collage & Unplug

Collage & Unplug

Sunset CommonsSan Francisco, CA
Friday, Feb 20 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm PST
Overview

Step away from the noise and into a night of creative exploration, texture, and self-expression.

Join us for a cozy, guided Collage Night where the focus is on process over perfection and meaning over polish. This evening is an invitation to slow down, work with your hands, and discover what wants to emerge—without an agenda or a “finished” result in mind.

Through gentle prompts and open creative freedom, you’ll explore themes like identity, contrast, intuition, and connection. Using a thoughtfully curated mix of papers, images, words, and materials, you’ll create a collage that reflects what you’re drawn to in the moment. Think torn edges, bold juxtapositions, layered textures, mixed fonts, and pieces that don’t neatly align—but tell a story anyway.

This is a space where roughness is welcome, mistakes become part of the design, and beauty is found in the unexpected. There’s no right way to collage—only your way.

All materials included
No experience needed—just curiosity and an open mind

Expect a relaxed, welcoming environment with light mingling, quiet pockets of focus, and organic conversation throughout the evening.

You’ll leave with a tactile, one-of-a-kind creation and a deeper appreciation for the meaning that can surface when you let go of rules and follow what feels right.

Spots are limited and advance registration is required. If you’ve been craving a night to unplug, get messy, and create for the sake of creating—this is it

About the Instructor:

Victoria Hyland has been creating art for as long as she can remember, beginning as a child who fell in love with drawing and painting horses. What started as an early passion evolved into a lifelong relationship with art, and today she creates regularly and sells commissioned pieces.

While collage has always intrigued her, it became a deeper part of her artistic practice over the past year. She’s drawn to both the intentional strategy of composing a piece and the intuitive process of selecting images and words that resonate in the moment. Watching individual fragments come together into a cohesive story is at the heart of what she loves about the medium.

Victoria finds collage to be deeply therapeutic—a playful, grounding way to stay connected to creativity, especially during periods of creative block with drawing or painting. She’s excited to share this process with others and invite participants to experience the joy of making art from unexpected materials.

About Sunset Commons:

Carmen and Steven started Sunset Commons to provide a space to connect and build community through arts and craft activities led by talented local artists. Inspired by a love for creativity and a desire to foster connection in the Sunset District, we envisioned a “third space” where neighbors can gather, unwind, and form meaningful relationships. Our mission is to empower self-expression, boost confidence, and offer an inclusive haven for everyone, from introverts seeking a calm environment to those enjoying health-focused traditional teas. Sunset Commons is not just a business - it’s our way of enriching the community we love and to the city we both grew up in.

*Our events are often photographed and filmed so we can share the fun with our community. If you don’t want to be on camera, no worries—let us know before the event.
