Artist and designer Peggy Pfenninger will lead a hands-on workshop teaching 3 different ways to approach collage.

<p>Siren Nation, amplifying the voices of women in the arts for the past 15 years, is proud to present <strong>Siren Nation Speaks</strong>—a monthly online series of free arts workshops, talks, and performances. </p><p>On October 10, we're excited to bring you a hands-on workshop in <strong>“Collage Explorations”</strong>! Do you love collage but aren’t sure how to get started? Artist and designer <strong>Peggy Pfenninger</strong> will teach you several different ways to approach collage, from spontaneous assemblage to planned-out “linear” collages. No experience is needed, and the workshop is open to all ages.</p><p><em>Closed captioning will be provided on Zoom for accessibility. </em></p>

<h2>Workshop Leader</h2><p><strong>Peggy Pfenninger </strong>spends her time running a graphic design/print business and creating unique pieces of art. Because she loves to work in many different media, the title “multimedia artist” suits her best. Whether dreaming up a new collage, painting, or snapping photos, she is always exploring color, texture, and energy. </p><p>Peggy is a joyous, dedicated member of the Oregon art community and looks forward to again hosting collage workshops in her NE Portland home. <p>Peggy will lead us through the three fun collage exercises listed below.</p><h3>Exercise 1: Non-Committal Collages</h3><p>Create 4 quick collages from 9 random bits of ephemera. No glue or scissors needed. If you would like to capture your collages, please have a camera or smartphone handy.</p><h3>Exercise 2: Paper Doodling with Kirigami – Cut Paper Snowflakes</h3><p>Remember cutting snowflakes when you were a kid? We’ll cut snowflakes to create interesting shapes to make doodle collages with. What's a doodle collage? It’s a collage created spontaneously. Just as if you were doodling with a pen, except your tools are paper, scissors, and a glue stick.</p><h3>Exercise 3: Linear Collage from Magazine Pages</h3><p>With this exercise, we’ll use magazines to create one or two different types of collages. A linear collage is one with forethought and direction. Very different from the first two exercises. Don't worry, you got this!</p>

<h2>Supplies You’ll Need</h2><p>You’ll just need a few basic supplies to make these collages. Please have these handy when the workshop starts:</p><ul><li>Scissors</li><li>Glue stick</li><li>3 magazines with good picture content</li><li>A catalog or magazine not being used for collage, to use as a glue book</li><li>9 scraps of paper or small 3D objects (Try to vary the shapes and sizes, but nothing much bigger than the size of one or both of your hands.)</li><li>3 patterned or colorful sheets of paper that you can cut an 8" square from (Think copier paper or a tiny bit heavier. Quality wrapping paper is a good choice. Pick patterns, designs, or colors that look nice together.)</li></ul>
