Lives in the Balance is the non-profit organization founded by child psychologist Dr. Ross Greene, originator of the evidence-basedCollaborative & Proactive Solutions(CPS) approach. Our vision is to foster collaboration and empathy, transform lives, and inspire change for all children (especially the most vulnerable), to heighten awareness of the detrimental and counterproductive effects of punitive interventions, and to address the systemic issues that impede our progress. The mission of Lives in the Balance is to provide vital, accessible resources and programs to caregivers of behaviorally challenging kids; to bring the plight of these kids into the public consciousness; to address the systemic issues that cause many of these kids to slip through the cracks; and to promote parenting and disciplinary practices that foster the better side of human nature in all children.

<h3>Collaborative &amp; Proactive Solutions: 2-Day Virtual Training with Dr. Ross Greene, PhD</h3>This is the evidence-based model Dr. Ross Greene describes in his influential books The Explosive Child, Lost at School, Lost &amp; Found, and Raising Human Beings. The CPS model has transformed thinking and practices in countless families, schools, inpatient psychiatric units, and residential and juvenile detention facilities worldwide and has been associated with dramatic reductions in adult-child conflict concerning behaviors, disciplinary referrals, detentions, suspensions, restraints, and seclusions. The model represents a significant departure from discipline-as-usual: it focuses on solving problems rather than on modifying behavior, emphasizes collaborative rather than unilateral solutions, encourages proactive rather than reactive intervention, de-emphasizes diagnostic categories, and provides practical, research-based tools for assessment and intervention.In this webinar, Dr. Greene will provide an overview of the CPS model and more advanced coverage of the nuances of assessment and engaging kids in solving the problems that affect their lives. You don't have to participate on both days. On Day One, Dr. Greene will provide a general overview of the CPS model, including key themes, using the assessment instrumentation (ASUP), and solving problems collaboratively. On Day Two, he will dive deeper into various facets of the model, using extensive video examples and ample time for questions and discussion. If you're only interested in an introduction to the CPS model, just sign up for the first day. And if you want both, sign up for both days.All registered participants will receive recordings of the training following the Live Webinar (usually within 3-5 days after the live event has ended). Once received, you will have access for two weeks.While Dr. Greene will answer many questions during the webinar—especially at the end of each segment—both days feature a lunchtime Q&amp;A session with a separate interactive Zoom link. The lunchtime Q&amp;As will be interactive; however, they will not be recorded.Registration for this training closes at 3 PM ET on February 12, 2025.Psychologists can earn 12 CEs.After this training, participants will:<ul><li>Describe the five significant shifts of the CPS model, including focusing on problems rather than behaviors, the advantages of collaborative (rather than unilateral) problem solving, and the importance and feasibility of proactive (rather than reactive) intervention.</li><li>Identify the lagging and unsolved problems using the Assessment of Skills and Unsolved Problems(ASUP).</li><li>Describe the three basic mechanisms by which adults handle unsolved problems and unmet expectations in kids (Plans A, B, and C), what is accomplished by each, and the three steps or "ingredients" of Plan B.</li><li>Describe how to effectively implement Plan B to solve problems, teach skills, and reduce the frequency and intensity of challenging behavior.</li><li>Identify the strategies for dealing with the various structural factors in schools that may impede the implementation of the CPS model.</li><li>Describe and deal with the roadblocks commonly encountered in implementation with individual children, families, and systems.</li></ul>Lectures, video demonstrations, and Q &amp; A will be used as the primary means of instruction.Participants in this two-day training will leave with an understanding of the CPS model's underpinnings, its refinements over the past 8-10 years, and practical assessment and intervention tools that can be brought back to and used in diverse settings.Intended Audience: Mental Health Professionals, Special Educators, Classroom Teachers, Special Education Administrators, Superintendents, Principals/Assistant Principals, Speech/Language Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counselors, Pediatricians/Family Physicians, Staff in Restrictive Therapeutic Facilities (Inpatient Psychiatric Units, Residential Facilities, Juvenile Detention Facilities), ParentsFAQsWhat time does the webinar begin? To accommodate different time zones, Zoom log-in is at 9:40 a.m. ET (New York City time). Dr. Greene will begin the training at 9:45 a.m. ET and end at 5:15 p.m. ET each day.Can I pay with a Purchase Order? Yes. When registering, indicate you are paying by invoice, then list the name and email address of the person who should receive the invoice. If you have the PO#, include that as well.Can I receive Continuing Education Hours? Lives in the Balance is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Lives in the Balance maintains responsibility for this program and its content. Additionally, while credits may be accepted for Counselors, MFT, Addiction Professionals, and Social Workers, this remains at the discretion of the licensing board. Participants are encouraged to reach out to their respective licensing board and/or state psychological association to ensure that credits earned will be accepted for their licensure purposes.Will this training be recorded? Yes. All registered participants will receive links to the recording of the two-day training following the live webinar. Links to the recordings will be emailed to you (usually) 3-5 days after the live webinar. Once received, you will have two weeks to view the recordings.Can I receive a refund? Attendees can receive a refund 1 day before the event. Credit will not be given if you do not cancel before the event.
