Description: The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with knowledge and skills to implement Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT); an evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). CPT has been endorsed by the Institute of Medicine as a first line treatment for PTSD, and related disorders, with individuals who have experienced all types of trauma including sexual assault, accidents, natural disasters and combat. You will learn about the symptoms and theory underlying CPT. You will also gain knowledge and skills required to implement CPT with special populations. This workshop will include a didactic presentation, role-plays and videos to ensure the participants understand the theory, research and session by session information needed to conduct CPT.

Objectives:

As a result of this course, participants will be prepared to:

1. Describe PTSD symptoms and theory underlying CPT.

2. List pre-treatment issues and recommended assessment measures.

3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills required to implement CPT, an evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD.

4. Describe the different formats of CPT and when they would be appropriate.

5. Demonstrate knowledge and skills required to implement CPT with special populations.

6. Identify when to flex the protocol to manage various client issues.

Instructor:

Kathleen M. Chard, PhD, is a graduate of Indiana University and serves as the associate chief of staff for research and director of the Trauma Recovery Center at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. She is also a professor of clinical psychiatry and director of the UC Health Stress

Center at the University of Cincinnati. She is the author of the CPT for Sexual Abuse Treatment Manual and is co-author of the Cognitive Processing Therapy: Military/Veteran Manual. Dr. Chard has contributed to over 60 research publications and 100 presentations at national and international conferences.
