The University Libraries'Research Data ServicesProgram provides a wide variety of services in support of effective research data planning, management, preservation, discovery and use. In addition to consultation and support services, the RDS team also provides support for several key research data infrastructure capabilities that are maintained by the Library for use by UNM's research community.Dr. Karl Benedicthas worked since 1986 in parallel tracks of information management, geospatial information technology and archaeology. Within the College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences he serves as an Associate Professor; as the Director of the Research Data Services Program, and as subject liaison for the departments ofGeography and Environmental StudiesandEarth and Planetary Sciencesat The University of New Mexico. His previous experience includes fifteen years at the Earth Data Analysis Center at the University of New Mexico (including five years as the EDAC Director), for the US Forest Service, National Park Service, and in the private sector conducting archaeological research, developing geospatial databases, performing geospatial and statistical analyses, and developing web-based information delivery applications. In these positions he has developed and managed the development of information technology and data management capacity in support of multiple research and application domains including public health, resource management, hydro-climate research, atmospheric modeling, disaster planning and mitigation, and renewable energy research.Jon Wheeleris a Data Curation Librarian within the University of New Mexico's College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences. Jon's role in the Libraries' Data Services initiatives include the development of research data ingest, packaging and archiving work flows. Prior to joining the College in 2012, Jon provided access services at the University of North Carolina at Asheville's Ramsey Library and served as an environmental records coordinator on a contract to the White Sands Missile Range in southern New Mexico.

The University Libraries' Research Data Services program presents worksops on one Friday of each month that focus on tools and strategies that make data management, analysis, visualization, communication, and sharing more efficient and more fun.

Each workshop will begin with an introduction to the topic followed by an open lab to experiment with what was taught.

The Centennial Science and Engineering library is located in the SW quadrant of the main UNM campus.

What can I bring into the event?
We encourage experimentation with the tools and technologies that we cover in the workshops. To make this easy we have created an installer of all of the developed workshop content and applications that you can run in a self-contained environment on our own computer. UNM students, staff and faculty can check out a laptop computer from the library to use during the session and everybody is encouraged to bring their own laptop computer to practice on.
