This course teaches the basics of programming focused on solving clinical problems.

Computational approaches to medicine are increasingly important. This course is aimed specifically at clinicians who want to harness the power of computers to solve clinical problems, but who have minimal or no computing skills. It teaches you the basics of programming, and uses that to allow you to understand how to write simple, practical programs which you can use to solve clinical problems. We assume no starting knowledge, and will teach you how to install and run the necessary software you need to start writing small, practical programs (“Coding”). We use that to explore core programming topics, and finish with a mini-project either designed by you to solve a problem you are interested in or using an existing dataset to build a simple predictive model, and we offer post-course support to help develop that project further. The course is suitable for complete beginners, but will also help complement the knowledge of those who have some informal or self-taught programming experience. The course is run by an experienced faculty (we have taught &gt;400 students to program) and is suitable for any post-graduate with a medical/ medical research background (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, etc). The course cost covers attendance at the course, 6 month support via Slack as well as certificate of attendance. We can offer up to 5 reduced cost places (£50) - please email to apply.
