Event Details

At a Dojo, young people between 7 and 17 learn how to write computer code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and much more. In addition to learning to code, members meet like minded people, show off what they’ve been working on and so on. CoderDojo makes development and learning to code a fun, sociable and awesome experience. CoderDojo also puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software, and has a strong network of members and volunteers globally.

Note: If you own a laptop, please bring it!  Our mentors can assist you with getting your own programming environment set up, so that you can have fun coding even when you can't make it to the sessions!

I'm a computer programmer by trade, and have recently hatched the Evansville CoderDojo chapter. I have accepted my personal challenge to help inspire and teach the new generations about the joys of technology and more specifically computer programming.

After reading an inspiring article earlier this year about the CoderDojo movement, I decided to jump in and start to champion and mentor my own Dojo here in Evansville, Indiana.

Meetings are announced on our Facebook page, and we have venue space secured through the end of 2014. The frequency of our meetings is once per month, but with an increase in interest, we'd like to see it happen a little more often than that.

I've got some great friends helping with the mentoring, and I think together we're going to make this movement something great for southern Indiana.
