What if there was an informal place where you can use your digital skills for good, in this case, helping peacebuilders to utilise digital more and building digital tools to promote the idea of peace? We are looking for civic hackers, social and civic tech enthusiasts, peacebuilders both activists and professionals and community developers to come together and be part of a new monthly meetup. The kickoff meeting will take place on the 4th October at 2pm and offers us the opportunity to get to know each other and to learn more about the iniative and its origin. Later this month, we will have a special online meeting including a guest speeker - namely Sonja Fischbauer, who is working for the Open Knowledge Foundation and coordinating the "Code for Germany" project. For those of you who are not yet familiar with this initiative, "Code for Germany" fosters community-driven tech initiatives aiming at the improvement of the public good. It connects activists with very diverse backgrounds to develop software and hardware solutions which benefit a society’s digitalization. The outcome covers a very broad spectrum, reaching from mobile and web applications, interactive maps and data platforms, relating to pollution, water quality, barrier-free accessibility and lots of other issues.As this project proved to be a success, we would like to replicate their success of activating activists and those interested in tech to care about changing their local city for good, but in this case, peace! Doing so, we aim to create a space where activists, social tech experts and basically everyone interested, can connect in a very informal setting to discuss ideas, potentials and demands, fostering the creation of organic volunteer-led digital solutions. Sonja will give us some insights on how "Code for Germany" works and will be happy to answer your questions! All digital skills are welcome. If you're interested in social or civic tech but have no experience in peacebuilding, you're encouraged to join us. You can learn how to use your skills for not just for social good, but peace!Perhaps you're a peacebuilder with limited digital skills. There's so much you can contribute to setting the agenda, influencing grassroots digital projects, and having meaningful conversations about digital peacebuilding with a diverse group of people in a fun, dynamic, and engaging environment.The meetups are set to last 2 hours, consisting of exchange and discussions and occasional inputs by guest speakers. The first meetup will take place within the facilities of the Austrian Centre for Peace in the 4th district. Code for Peace is an independent meetup, meant for activists by activists, even though it is supported by the Austrian Centre for Peace and the Austrian Institute of Technology. The following meetings will be moved to rather informal settings – most likely cafés and bars around the area – and proceed in the afternoon/evening hours.
