Absolutely. Cob is literally made of earth and we apply it with our hands. It's messy and very fun!

What will we be doing?

Because cob is a natural material, it needs upkeep and maintenance. Every year, we reapply  a layer of plaster and repaint it. During Spring Fest at Bartram Gardens, we'll be mixing the plaster and applying it as a community!

Inspired by the story of a Black community nourishing and defining itself using a shared oven in Toni Morrison's novel, Paradise, artist Misty Sol invented an earth oven at Bartram's Gardens to act as a site for communal gathering, baking, and exploring Black & Indigenous Identities.
