WHY: The history of segregation in state and city park design is still visible in the South today. May is Preservation Month, when events occur to "promote historical places, instill national and community pride, promote heritage tourism, and show the social and economic benefits of historical preservation" across the country.

In recognition of Preservation Month, the ACS Book Club has selected to read Landscapes of Exclusion: State Parks and Jim Crow in the American South by Willilam E. O'Brien, with guidance from the Historic Preservation Studio.
