CME: Optimizing Female Athlete Care - A Multidisciplinary Effort

Chaired by Katherine Caldwell, MD, and Devyani Hunt, MD, this in-person CME will highlight best practices in treating female athletes.

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital

Learning objectives:This two-and-a-half-hour course will provide education through lectures, case-based presentations and question and answer sessions. The goal of this activity is to enhance knowledge, skills, performance and care of the female athlete.Topics include: <ul><li>Treatment concerns that are unique to the female athlete</li><li>ACL tears in female athletes</li><li>Current research projects that center on the female athlete</li><li>Creatine supplementation in athletes</li></ul>At the end of the conference, attendees will be able to:<ul><li>Formulate better strategies to assess, evaluate and diagnose the unique injuries and issues that female athletes face.</li><li>Formulate a diagnostic and treatment approach to the female athlete.</li><li>Understand the unique approach to physical therapy in the female athlete.</li><li>Understand how differences in biomechanics and hormones increases injury risk.</li><li>Understand the use and importance of proper nutrition and dietary supplementation in female athletes.</li></ul>

Who should attend: This activity is designed for sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, internists, primary care/family practice physicians, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, pediatric orthopedists, physical therapists, and athletic trainers but may be of interest to chiropractors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dietitians and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the care of the female athlete.
