Curious about how to make your home more energy efficient, comfortable, and cost-effective? Join us for a fun, interactive event hosted by the New Hampshire Energy Education Program (NHEEP) and Turn Cycle Solutions (TCS) as part of NH Energy Week!
This hands-on workshop will explore the science of energy loss in homes—and what you can do about it. Learn through engaging activities, demonstrations, and real-world tools used by energy professionals.
🔍 What to Expect:
Live Blower Door Test: Curious what an energy audit is or what an energy auditor might do?Experience a real-time demonstration of how air leakage is measured in homes. A residential energy audit is like a check-up for your home’s energy performance. It helps identify where your home is losing energy — and money — and offers solutions to make it more efficient, comfortable, and affordable to live in. TCS will walk us through the process, highlight where heat escapes, and share tips on weatherization solutions you can apply.
Infrared Investigations: Use handheld IR cameras and iPhone IR tools to explore heat loss visually—it's an eye-opening way to learn what’s going on behind your walls!
NHEEP's Interactive Stations:
- Stackolator & Ice Melt Challenge: Discover how heat moves through materials via convection and conduction.
- Thermal Camera Challenge: Hunt down hot and cold spots hidden throughout the room.
- Model Home Showdown: Compare heat retention in different mini home designs.
- Weatherization Materials Lab: Get up close with common materials used to stop heat loss and test their performance with heating pads and hair dryers.
- Weatherization in Action: Learn when, where, and why to weatherize—using real images from NH homes.
BONUS! A couple of Turn Cycle’s experienced installers will be on hand to showcase the back of one of their service trucks and chat with attendees about real-world energy efficiency work in the field.
Whether you own a home, rent an apartment, or simply want to understand how buildings use (and lose) energy, this workshop is a great opportunity to get curious, get hands-on, and get saving.
