A closing reception for Artists Need to Create on the Same Scale that Society has the Capacity to Destroy: Mare Nostrum with an evening of programming and celebration. 16:30 – Artist Paolo Canevari will perform his Ora pro nobis in the Chiesa&#x27;s main space17:00 – Celebrated Viol quartet Parthenia will perform an hour of early music for the viola da gamba by Claudio Monteverdi (1567 –1543), Philippe Verdelot (c. 1470 –1542), Andrea Gabrieli (1542 –1585), and Nicolò Corradini (1585-1646) among others, as well as a contemporary composition by Lucille M. He has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions, most recently Souvenir (Olnick Spanu Art Program, Garrison, New York, 2015), Monuments of the Memory (Galleria Christian Stein, Milan, 2013), and Decalogo (Drawing Center, New York, 2011). He has participated in the 55th, 54th, and 52nd Biennale d&#x27;Arte di Venezia as well as the Whitney Biennial, the BRUCENNIAL, and numerous group shows over the years at institutions including Museum of Modern Art (New York), P.S.1 (New York), Palazzo Ducale (Rome), Kunst-Werke Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin), Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma (Rome), Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna Roma (Rome).Parthenia is a viol or vila da gamba quartet that brings early music into the present with a ravishing sound and a remarkable sense of ensemble, animating both ancient and fresh-commissioned repertoire to critical acclaim. Parthenia is Beverly Au, Lawrence Lipnik, Rosamund Morley and Lisa Terry. The ensemble appears regularly in concerts across America, and produces its own series in New York City, collaborating with the world’s foremost early music specialists. The quartet has performed at such wide-ranging venues as Music Before 1800 festival, the Harriman-Jewell Series, the Pierpont Morgan Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Yale Center for British Art, Columbia University’s Miller Theatre, among others. Their performances range from its popular touring program, When Music &amp; Sweet Poetry Agree, a celebration of Elizabethan poetry and music with actor Paul Hecht, to the complete viol fantasies of Henry Purcell, to Al Naharot Bavel which features works by Jewish Renaissance composers. Parthenia also commissions and premieres new works annually. Parthenia’s discography includes Nothing Proved – New Works for Viols, Voice, and Electronics, featuring works by Kristin Norderval, Frances White and Tawnie Olson; As it Fell on a Holie Eve – Music for an Elizabethan Christmas, with soprano Julianne Baird; Les Amours de Mai, with Ms. Baird and violinist Robert Mealy; The Flaming Fire – Mary Queen of Scots and Her World with Ryland Angel (countertenor) and Dongsok Shin (virginal); and A Reliquary for William Blake, and Within the Labyrinth. Parthenia is represented by GEMS Live! Artist Management and records for MSR Classics.Sarah Sze is an American artist based in New York City. She represented the United States at the 55th Venice Biennale with a solo pavilion presentation entitled Triple Point. Other important solo exhibitions include Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia (2014); Asia Society, New York (2011-12); Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Newcastle, UK (2009); Malmo Konsthall, Sweden (2006), Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2003); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2002); and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2002). She has conceived major public commissions at New York City’s High Line Park (2011-12); the Doris C. Freedman Plaza, New York City, organized by the Public Art Fund (2006); and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge (2004), and most recently for the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s 2nd Avenue subway line, 96th street station, New York. Sze’s sculptures, installations and works on paper have also been exhibited at institutions including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Serpentine Gallery, London; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo; the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Her work is well represented in important private and public collections worldwide, including those of New York’s Guggenheim Museum, and Museum of Modern Art, The New Museum, and Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. Rirkrit Tiravanija is an Argentinian-born artist based in New York City, Berlin, and Chiang Mai. Tiravanija aligns his artistic practice with an ethic of social sculpture. In one of his best-known series, begun with pad thai (1990) at the Paula Allen Gallery in New York, Tiravanija rejected traditional art objects altogether and instead cooked and served food for exhibition visitors. Solo exhibitions of his work have been mounted by Reiña Sofia in Madrid (1994), Museum of Modern Art in New York (1997), Philadelphia Museum of Art (1998), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (1999), Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art in Oslo (2002), Chaing Mai University Art Museum (2004), Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (2004), and Musée d&#x27;art moderne de la Ville de Paris (2005). Tiravanija&#x27;s work has also been included in major exhibitions such as Venice Biennale (1993 and 1999), Whitney Biennial (1995 and 2005), Liverpool Biennial (2002 and 2004), São Paulo Biennial (2006), The Shapes of Space at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (2007), Installations: Selections from the Guggenheim Collections at Guggenheim Bilbao (2008), and theanyspacewhatever at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (2008). For the Venice Biennale in 2003, the artist co-curated Utopia Station, an exhibition that later showed in Haus der Kunst in Munich. Tiravanija&#x27;s work has been recognized with numerous awards and grants including a Gordon Matta Clark Foundation Award, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Biennial Competition Award (1993), National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist Fellowship (1994), the Lucelia Artist Award from the Smithsonian American Art Museum (2003), and the Hugo Boss Prize from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York (2004). Tomas Vu is a Vietnamese-born, New York City based artist. Vu has exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo museum shows in Japan, Italy, China, and Vietnam. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at institutions such as the China Central Academy of Fine Arts Museum, Beijing (2015), Centro Colombo Americano, Bogotá (2012), Museum Haus Kusaya, Yokuska (2001), and Milwaukee Institute for Art and Design (1998). In collaboration with Rirkrit Tiravanija as part of their series Green Go Home, Vu received a solo exhibition at Vargas Museum, Manila, in the fall of 2017. Vu is also the curator of the traveling group exhibition DRAW, which was inspired by the drawings of LeRoy Neiman and has since included over 100 artists. DRAW has had iterations in China, Serbia, and the US, and is headed to Berlin, North Carolina, and Cuba next. Vu has received many awards including the Joan Mitchell Foundation Fellowship award (2001), Guggenheim Fellowship (2002), Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program (2015), Residency and Audience Award for Best Artist at the 30th Biennial of Graphic Arts Ljubljana (2016), the Louis Comfort Tiffany Artist Award (2017), and the Arts/Industry Residency at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center (2018).
