A climate change initiative at the initiative of The French Embassy Ireland in partnership with What The Hack!

<p></p><p>We want to have your opinion and hear your ideas around climate.</p><p>You will be able to develop deeper knowledge on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, diverse soft skills that will be necessary for your future career and you will also have the great opportunity to network with high calibre people!</p><p>We want to have your take on Climate, and every profile is welcomed. You can join as a team, or on your own and we will create a team with students from your campus with a common interest and different skills.</p><h1>The Goal:</h1><p>This event brings together students from university campuses around Ireland to examine issues surrounding climate change and inequality on campus and to develop and implement solutions to these issues.  </p><h1>The Benefits:</h1><p>* Show that through collaboration we can implement projects within a community and create change in an ecosystem</p><p>* Allow you to voice your ideas to change makers and politicians in an innovative way</p><p>* Show that students and the young generation care about climate change and want to take action</p><p>* Raise awareness on ways to achieve the sustainable goals in Irish university campuses</p><p>The best part?</p><p>You will have the opportunity to present your idea during the “Climate and Community” conference organised by the French Embassy Ireland in May 2021. You will showcase your awesome work to policymakers and climate advocates and try to implement those ideas on your own campus.</p><p>This event is part of a Franco-Irish climate project. 5 years after the Paris Agreement and 10 years after the 2030 Horizon and the Sustainable Development Goals were drafted, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted new priorities in the climate agenda. The 2021 Franco-Irish Dublin conference: ‘The Climate and Community’ will bring together various political, economic and cultural stakeholders in May. It will reflect the rise of environmental movements in France and Ireland, and give a voice to young people who play a major role in the call for greater climate action. All Irish universities reached the top 200 of THE 2020 Impact Ranking including 5 of them in the top 100, genuinely contributing to the Irish plan on UN SDGs.</p><h1>Workshop Structure: </h1><p>Students will spend 5 weeks researching their problem statement, testing solutions, and building a prototype or plan to be presented during the final pitch workshop weekend. </p><p>Each week will include  1 hour long workshop (18:00-19:00, Mondays) and one 30 minute mentor meeting (which can be scheduled to fit the team's needs).</p><p>The final weekend will run Saturday (10-16:00) and Sunday (10-13:00).</p><p>If part of a team is unable to attend the Monday meetings everything will be recored.</p><p>The teams are expected to complete work outside of the workshops and mentor meetings totalling approximately 5 hours per week. </p><h2>Problem Statement Themes:</h2><p>All the SDGs are interconnected but we will focus on the Sustainable Development Goal 12 (responsible consumption and production) and Goal 13 (climate action).  </p><p>Teams will be tasked with looking for solutions that impact climate change and inequality in the following thematic categories. </p><h3>Policy</h3><p>How can campus leadership drive climate action?</p><h3>Practice</h3><p>How to drive change in students' habits to affect climate change?</p><h3>Social</h3><p>How to leverage social pressures for good?</p><h3>Product</h3><p>How to develop new or replacement products that fit the circular economy and are accessible to a wide audience? </p><h2>Areas Of Application:</h2><p>Teams solutions must fall into at least one of the following categories</p><h3>Student Life</h3><p>Solutions must fit within and support the day-to-day life of students on campus</p><h3>Infrastructure</h3><p>Solutions are applicable to the running or planning of the university</p><h3>Future Planning</h3><p>Solutions are designed to be implemented over the long term life of the campus</p><h1>Participant Structure:</h1><p>Each university may field multiple teams to participate and compete within the university and for the final conference</p><h1>Prizes! </h1><p>* The university winning solutions will get the opportunity to turn their solution into a pilot program on campus</p><p>* Winning teams from each university have the opportunity to pitch at the ODD Conference</p><p>* The single winning team from the ODD pitches receives a special prize package</p><p></p><p></p>
