In an election year that is complex for climate policies, we have picked out some of the big talking points for the region where we know there is good, factual evidence that can cut through the electoral noise. Evidence shows that people want action on climate - and we're in danger of falling behind and missing out on real economic and social benefits.The Chair for the evening is Richard Beardsworth, Professor of International Politics, University of Leeds. In her roles as past President of CIWEM (Chartered Institution of Water &amp; Environmental Management) and host of the podcast Planet Possible, she spends her time looking for opportunities to connect people to solve some of our biggest challenges. With a focus on water, Niki is the co-founder and Director of Blue &amp; Green Consulting, working in the UK water sector to develop approaches to implementing catchment scale nature-based solutions to support significant investment in storm overflow spill reductions.Professor Richard BeardsworthRichard works on climate leadership in the international/national politics of climate change with a key focus on the politics of energy transition. He co-chairs the University of Leeds UNFCCC Task Force and is a member of the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures executive. Richard is Professor of International Politics and Head of the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds.Melanie TaylorMelanie is the Founder of Just Strategy, a northern-based strategy consultancy for place-based, customer-centric, net zero transitions. She is the Co-Chair of the Commission’s Communities and Engagement Panel, and Non Exec Board member of Solutions for the Planet and the North East &amp; Yorkshire Net Zero Hub.Paul HayesPaul Hayes is a Senior Policy Fellow at Leeds University Business School. Prior to taking this role he was policy manager at Wakefield Council, with over 20 years experience of local government and issues across the Yorkshire and Humber regionAndrew WoodAndrew has a background as a planning and sustainability consultant and an environmental campaigner. His role at the Commission is to build the application and impact of our work on local policymaking, the planning system, and to contribute to influencing national policy.Amogh Nagendra - RYCAThe Regional Youth Climate Assembly (RYCA) is a group made of members across the Yorkshire &amp; Humber region to provide a collective youth voice for young people within the climate discussion. RYCA encourages young people living in the Y&H region to represent their local authority and to join the pool of discussion when it comes to young people’s futures.Rachael BalmerRachael is a Chartered Planner who has worked in Local government Planning in Yorkshire for over 20 years- in both development management and planning policy. Currently one of the planning policy managers at North Yorkshire Council, and currently leading on how our new Local Plan is going to respond to climate change.
