Clay Tendency: Ceramic Nüshu Workshop
A ceramic workshop inspired by Nüshu, the women’s script of Hunan. Create personal clay keepsakes with hidden words and memories.
The Ceramic Nüshu Workshop invites participants to begin with Nüshu and create their own small ceramic objects. Originating from Jiangyong, Hunan, Nüshu was once a writing system used among women to share emotions, memories, and intimate messages. It is not only a form of writing, but also a cultural trace of connection, care, and self-expression.
During the workshop, participants will transform language into tactile and lasting ceramic pieces through hand-building, carving, pressing, and texture-making. Each participant can create an incense holder, pendant, or keepsake, sealing their own words, emotions, or secret messages into clay.
No previous ceramic experience is required. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in craft, women’s culture, writing, memory, and contemporary art.
