The City of Oglethorpe, named after Georgia's founder, James Oglethorpe, was incorporated in 1849. In 1854 Oglethorpe was established as the county seat for Macon County and, in the 1850s was on the short list of cities being considered as the new capital of Georgia. Our history is rich and colorful and the many historical treasures and the beautiful scenery make Oglethorpe a wonderful place to visit or call home. We welcome you and look forward to meeting you soon!
