City Cellars Culinary Workforce Development Program

Own the HOU is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to bridging the homeownership gap for people of color (which are members of the Black, Hispanic, Indigenous and Asian communities) in Houston, and Harris County. Our mission is to support 5,000 new households of color in achieving their dream of homeownership while also assisting existing homeowners of color in preserving their cherished homes by the end of 2025.Backed by a generous $7.5 million grant from Wells Fargo Foundation to the Harris County Homeownership Collaborative (HCHC), Own the HOU is an initiative that brings together key stakeholders and organizations committed to fostering equitable homeownership opportunities in our community.F﻿ifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation leads three programs under the Own the HOU collaboration:E﻿arned Equity  BuilderY﻿outh Financial LiteracyY﻿oung Professional Homeownership Network

On this special evening, our 10 Culinary Cohort Students will present a thoughtfully curated dinner, showcasing the skills, creativity, and discipline they’ve developed through this intensive, hands-on training experience .This capstone dinner marks not just the end of a program, but the beginning of new careers, new opportunities, and a stronger future for our community.This first-of-its-kind program is made possible through the partnership of East River, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation, and The Center for Urban Transformation.Come be part of this historic and exciting milestone as we celebrate talent, transformation, and the power of community.
