Building Skills to Support Our Neighbors Transitioning from Incarceration

THRIVE’s Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) training is an experiential exploration of the meaning, guidelines and impact of Restorative Circles in reentry. Throughout the course of the training, participants will:

  • Explore the support and accountability systems of both themselves and prospective Core Members (returning citizens).
  • Gain understanding of the state-enforced conditions (rules) that Core Members must follow when released from prison.
  • Explore the experiences of the victims of prospective Core Members.
  • Explore and understand program and personal boundaries that support healthy relationships and community wholeness.
  • Explore the process, challenges and supportive factors of personal change.
  • Gain understanding and exposure to Circle Meeting process through film and role plays.

By the end of the day, participants will gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a CoSA volunteer within the THRIVE Community.

This training is modeled after the Vermont Department of Corrections and Community Justice Center Network of Vermont’s COSA training. It is designed to help community members become stronger allies for, with, and among our neighbors transitioning from incarceration.
