About this event

"Living in a diverse city doesn't necessarily mean that you interact with a diverse population -- The Jar makes that possible." ~Courtland Townes III, Jar Convener

"Joy is inherent to The Jar. Come to a room that is unlike any other in Boston. There's this community that's growing and building every day, the art and artists who come through just continue to get more fabulous, what are you waiting for? It's time!" ~Gina Christo, Jar Convener

CONVENE

The Jar utilizes a Convener Model which invites you to actively build a diverse and vibrant community. As a Convener, you’ll purchase a Jar of tickets for $60 – that’s 6 tickets at $10 each. You’ll then invite:

  • Your partner or other close friend
  • 2 people you would normally experience culture with
  • 2 people you wouldn’t normally experience culture with – people who may not look like you, pray like you, love like you, earn like you, etc. While these can be people you know – like an acquaintance, neighbor, or colleague – they are most importantly people you’d like to know better.

Together, the six of you gather to experience The Jar:

  • 7:00PM Doors & Open Bar
  • 7:30PM Chris Grace as Scarlett Johansson
  • 8:30PM Social Mixer

CHRIS GRACE AS SCARLETT JOHANSSON

Chris Grace, America’s 88th-most beloved Chinese actor, celebrates the life of his greatest inspiration and the most capable portrayer of Asian lives today: Scarlett Johansson.

Confused by the decision his favorite actor made in Ghost in the Shell to play a part most thought would be a Japanese character, Chris wonders what might lead a huge star to make such a decision in his first solo hour that was a sellout at Edinburgh Fringe and won him a Hollywood Encore Producers’ Award. Casting a critical eye on how it impacts artists of color like himself, but also with empathy for someone who has shared the struggle of being an actor, he explores the role of race in casting, Hollywood and society in general. Also, the two of them are nearly identical physically so he figured it was finally time to play her on stage.

Exploring both Chris and Scarlett’s biographies through stand-up comedy, stage combat and the songs of Tom Waits, this show reimagines what is and isn’t possible… or appropriate… in the life of an artist.

Chris Grace: As Scarlett Johansson is a lovely, wry, empathetic comic tribute from one Asian actor… to another

CHRIS GRACE

Chris has performed standup across the country and internationally for over ten years. His brilliant in-the-moment energy combined with sharp observations about race, sexuality, and soup dumplings has earned laughs around the world from a whole bunch of people that aren’t his parents. He has performed in numerous festivals and contests, including winning 1st Place at the Riot Festival National Comedy Contest in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He also won Best of Fest awards at Big Pine, Laugh After Dark , Comedy Chateau, and the Burbank Comedy Festival at Flappers. He recently debuted his solo comedy show CHRIS GRACE: AS SCARLETT JOHANSSON to the Edinburgh Fringe to a sell-out run. IG/TikTok: @chrisgracecomedy
