Chix Brunch Revival!

Texas Keeper was started in 2013 by three long-time friends born and raised in Austin. We literally hand built the cidery and had a good time doing it. Our name comes from the Hicks’ Texas Keeper, an apple variety first cultivated in Lamar County, Texas around the 1880s. Before modern refrigeration, “keepers” were apples that stored well, improved with age, and were therefore available for longer periods of time. Unfortunately, the Texas Keeper apple has joined the ranks of many old Texas cultivars that have disappeared from production and are now believed extinct.  The Cidery is on an old friend’s 20-acre ranch down in deep South Austin on the confluence of Bear and Onion creeks. It’s a beautiful spot full of old oak, pecan, and cypress trees.

Texas Keeper Cider

We're a group of Chix who want to use our businesses to better our City, one cause and one chicken meal at a time.  We're back at it in the New Year, with a fun afternoon for a purpose, brought to you by Texas Keeper Cider, Puli-Ra and La Flaca Urban Gardens!
Come for the cause, stay for the dope menu!
The [tentative] menu looks like this:
Szechuan Pepper Roasted Chicken with a Hot Pepper Honey Biscuit
Gulf Rice Stir Fry (with milder peppers)
Sourdough Naan, pepper cider jam, farm fried egg (add Smith & Smith cider bacon)
Naan Croissant Pastries with a Citrus Pepper Glaze
La Flaca Salted Brownies
Cider-ritas with La Flaca special salt rims and a lemon-thyme sweet & sour 
We'll have plenty of Texas Keeper Cider on tap and will be playing songs by famous female expats and immigrants in the good ol' USA (wo-migrants, if you will).  All ages, all genders, dogs on leashes welcome. Rain or shine.  100% of ticket proceeds are donated to the sponsored non-profit.  Food & Cider sold a la carte. The cause? <A HREF="http://www.casamarianella.org/posada-esperanza/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Posada Esperanza</A>, the family shelter of Casa Marianella.  Posada Esperanza is a full-service transitional housing program for immigrant mothers and their children, escaping domestic or cultural violence. Occupying four homes in East Austin, they currently house 14 mothers and nearly 30 children!
Founded in 2003, the shelter began with one small house nestled in East Austin and has now expanded to four beautiful homes. At the time, founder Patti McCabe was a year-long volunteer through AmeriCorps with Casa Marianella when a family sought shelter with Casa, a place historically catered toward adults. McCabe saw the need for a family shelter in Austin to serve this doubly disenfranchised population, experiencing homelessness and recently immigrating to a new place. She dedicated her life to this work and still serves as Program Director.
