Steppin’ rooted in Chicago and is the history of an African American dance. Chicago Steppin’ is the jazz of ballroom dancing and the reflection of the social history and experience of Chicago’s African American social life. In fact, African American Social History is communicated through dance. Steppin’ is a dance of two or more people dancing as partners to 6- or 8-count beats to musical sounds of Jazz, Soul, Funk, R&B, Neo Soul, or Rap music.
