About this event

The Chicago Ornithological Society, the Chicago Audubon Society, and the Illinois Ornithological Society welcome you to join us at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum on Thursday, October 17 for a celebration in honor of Chicago’s first documented fledging of Piping Plovers in over 60 years! This historic event was made possible by the efforts of over 200 volunteers who helped monitor the Piping Plovers from nest to fledge at Montrose Beach. We welcome volunteers and the public to come celebrate and learn more about Piping Plovers and their journey toward population recovery across the Great Lakes.

We will welcome guests to celebrate with snacks and a cocktail hour beginning at 6pm. At 7pm, we will hear from special guest speaker Dr. Francesca Cuthbert, Professor with University of Minnesota, who will discuss the state of Piping Plovers across the Great Lakes region and efforts to recover their populations.

Stay until 8pm for a special guest panel and open Q&A.

A cash bar will be available. Volunteer Piping Plover monitors who check in at the registration table as a volunteer will receive one ticket valid for a beer, wine or non-alcoholic beverage of their choice.
