The Garden District Book Shop is thrilled to welcome author Che Yeun to the shop on April 16 celebrate the release of her debut novel

The Garden District Book Shop is thrilled to welcome author Che Yeun to the shop on April 16 celebrate the release of her debut novel Tailbone, a fierce and gorgeous novel about a teenager who runs away from her abusive home to live in a boarding house for single women as a global financial crash threatens the people of Seoul.

Set in Seoul in 2008, Tailbone follows the story of an unnamed teenage girl who, after years of struggling with her alcoholic father's abuse, and what she sees as her mother's cowardice, decides to run away. At a boarding house for single women, the narrator is pulled into the orbit of one of the other girls living there: an older girl named Juju, whose beauty and grit offer anchorage in the narrator's strange new life.

A poignant tale about survival, the impact of colonial and familial violence, class, privilege, and womanhood, Tailbone is a powerful and thrilling novel from a blazing new talent.

The evening will begin at 6:00 PM. Che Yeun will be joined in conversation by renowned local author Maurice Carlos Ruffin. After the discussion, the two will open up the floor for a Q&A and then Yeun will personalize copies of her book. The event is free and open to the public but interested parties are encouraged to RSVP and reserve their copies of Tailbone ahead of time on Eventbrite.
