Chalkpit

Jacky Misson

Chalkpit is an exhibition resulting from the current project of Jacky Misson, artist-in-residence for Glynde. She is collecting stories and memories from people in the village who remember when the local pit was still active. Called Balcombe Pit, it was in use from the 1840s right up to the 1980s.
As part of the documenting process Jacky has invited seven fellow artists to join her to exhibit their own work responding to the Chalkpit.
Alongside Jacky are; Jenny Arran, Sarah Colbourne, Bob Dixon, Alexander Johnson, Lucy Newman, Isobel Smith Guy Stevens and Emily Warren.
The artists work in a number of different media including sound, painting and sculpture as well as incorporating more conceptual approaches.
The results will be exhibited in the newly refurbished Coach House at Glynde Place. The exhibition runs for one weekend (Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th of April) with a private view on Friday evening, and a Q&A session with the artists on the Saturday evening.
Everyone including children welcome, entrance is free, open Sat 14 and Sun 15 April, 11am - 6pm.
