Workshop Descriptor:

This workshop will engage participants in what research says about effective teaching and learning of mathematics and how this connects to inquiry. Participants will explore mathematics concepts through engagement with a range of tasks including online resources that can support the diversity of learners in any classroom. The role of high challenge tasks, digital provocations, mindsets, and organization of curriculum in creating learning environments that inspire students to think like mathematicians, will be explored. Participants will also have the opportunity, to engage with the planning process in response to the workshop.

Participants will:

  • Explore research relating to effective teaching of mathematics

  • Engage in practical mathematics inquiry and develop a deeper understanding of mathematics concepts

  • Examine the place of high challenge tasks and how to build them into a coherent program

  • Identify factors which support inquiry in the teaching and learning of mathematics

  • Reflect on the impact of the workshop on their current teaching of mathematics


Audience: Primary and early childhood teachers of mathematics, curriculum leaders, principals.

Presenter: Mignon Weckert

Mignon has taught in a range of school in Australia and her passion for effective teaching and learning of Mathematics led her to the role of numeracy advisor for independent schools in South Australia, professional development facilitator, writer of Mathematics support materials as well as developer of various projects to enhance student learning in Mathematics.

Mignon has held various leadership roles in schools. She has been involved with the International Baccalaureate since in 2000 as a teacher, PYP coordinator, workshop leader and school visitor, regional manager for the Asia Pacific region and head of elementary for a large international school. During her time at the Australian International School in Singapore, she worked closely with Professor Peter Sullivan to manage a project which focuses on implementing research based strategies which support student learning in Mathematics. After 10 years in Singapore, Mignon has recently returned to Australia where she is the Educational Leadership Director for Lutheran Schools in South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Registration fee after the 31 August 2017: US$330

Registration fee after the 30 September 2017: US$360

Cancellation Policy

Please note that each workshop will proceed based on participant registration. Innovative Global Education will inform you by 1 September, 2017 if the workshop is to be cancelled. If the workshop is cancelled your full payment will be reimbursed.

Workshop Participation

If Innovative Global Education is informed by 1 September, 2017 that a participant is unable to attend the workshop, a full refund will be given. If notification of not being able to participate is after 1 September, 2017 IGE will be unable to refund the registration fee.

If, for any reason, a school needs to either transfer a registered participant to another workshop from the workshop registered or change the name of the participant attending a workshop, Innovative Global Education can make these changes on request from school or participant.

International travel:

Songdo is conveniently located 20 minutes from the Incheon International Airport. Upon arrival, head to the Incheon Taxi ranks outside door 5 of the arrivals wing. A metered taxi from the airport to Chadwick International should cost about 30,000KRW.

Domestic Travel:

Songdo is accessible from Seoul using the metro system (Incheon Line 1) or express busses. More detailed maps and route numbers are available on Chadwick International's webpage. Parking is available on campus.
