LAFD CERT Battalion 2 / Northeast Los Angeles is comprised of residential and light industrial areas situated in the hills east of the Los Angeles River. Battalion 2 is located in LAFD Central Bureau.The communities of Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Hermon, Monterey Hills, Sycamore Grove, El Sereno, Montecito Heights, Mt. LAFD CERT Battalion 2

We are working to build self-sufficient teams in each of our communities. In our plan, our CERT members deploy to their staging areas and begin damage assessments to gain situational awareness after a disaster has struck. As the incident continues, specific purpose response teams will be formed to respond to the needs of the incident. We expect teams to provide mutual aid to one another if their own areas are stable. Join us as the Mt. Washington Jessica Neighborhood Team sets up their Command Post and establishes radio communications with the local Map Your Neighborhood blocks and with neighboring CERT Teams. If you don't live in the Jessica Neighborhood, you are one of those neighboring teams and will be trickled in to simulate what would happen during a real incident.
Initial staging area for neighboring teams will be at Cleland Ave Bicentennial Park.  Registration starts at 5pm.  Please arrive promptly.  Street Parking is extremely limited and this is a hilly area so get there early especially if you have mobility issues.  We will have roles available at the staging area for those who cannot hike but you have to get there early (before 5pm) to secure a parking spot next to the park.
Additional parking is available 7 block away at Aldama Elementary School (632 North Avenue 50, Los Angeles, CA 90042, Los Angeles, CA 90042).  There is no parking available in the Mt. Washington Jessica community. This exercise will focus on radio communication, damage assessment, response team forming, deployment, and resource management, as well as MYN block/CERT interaction. Bring your FRS (and ham) radios, equipment, response bags, PPE, water, and expect to hike at least a couple of miles with your equipment in a hilly area.  We expect it to get very dark, so bring your flash lights and extra fresh batteries. If you are medically trained, be prepared to explain how you would respond to an injury or multiple injuries. We'll give each team a experienced coach to help work through any logistical issues and help you become a better responder. At the end of the exercise, we'll do a hotwash to discuss how everything went, any problems that were discovered, and where we can all improve.  Pizza and snacks will be provided by the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council.
