<h2>About this event</h2>Alexandria CERT Basic Training is for anyone 18 or older who lives, works, or owns a business in the City of Alexandria. (If you live in Arlington County or Fairfax County, we can put you in touch with those CERT programs to take their training.)In this 8-week course, learn basic disaster response skills such as damage assessment after a disaster, triage and giving first aid to survivors, extinguishing small fires, performing light search and rescue, and providing much needed assistance in times of crisis. When emergencies happen, CERT volunteers can give critical support to first responders by providing immediate assistance to survivors and organizing volunteers at a disaster site. CERT volunteers can also participate in non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.The deadline to sign up for the CERT Basic Training course is Friday March 1. Course details will be sent by Monday, March 4. Classes are Tuesday evenings, 7 pm - 10 pm. They are a mix of in-person and Zoom sessions. Add all dates to your calendar:• March 5 in person• March 12 in person• March 19 in person• March 26 on Zoom• April 2 in person• April 9 in person• April 16 on ZoomSkills exercises and graduation will be held Saturday, May 4, 8:00 am – 1 pm.
