Local IIBA Chapter and ASPE

The <A HREF="https://centralfloridaiiba.wildapricot.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Central Florida IIBA Chapter</A> is excited to host the first professional development day in the area specifically geared toward business analysts. The Central Florida chapter has partnered with <A HREF="http://aspetraining.com" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">ASPE</A> for this year's conference! This will be a fantastic learning opportunity for you to expand your skills set, learn about the latest industry trends, and network with your colleagues. Morning Keynote: Billie Johnson - Standing on the Shoulders of Giants Through Collaboration
Ninety percent of organizations claim to be tackling issues so wickedly complex that they need teams to solve them. It is difficult to find anyone that would declare that collaboration lacks value to an organization as that response would be deemed unpopular in most organizations today, however what does it mean to “do collaboration”? Everyone in your organization likely has different ideas about “being collaborative. This means differing expectations and misunderstandings, resulting in less than optimal experiences. AND what if collaboration has not been a priority in organizations? You can be a more valuable resource in your organization by improving collaboration.
 
Afternoon Keynote: Bob the BA - The Badass Business Analyst Bucket List
Is it the end of an era? The beginning of the end? As businesses change so must our profession to meet their needs. Business analysis is not dead, it is evolving and that is okay. It really is! After all, the egg did not get to where it is today without the chicken evolving (it's true - the chicken came first). Change is happening way too quickly for woulda, coulda, shoulda. In this session, I will share my bucket list with you, but more importantly we will work together to create yours. This is not a “Someday I wish I...” bucket list, but a genuine, actionable, dare-I-say ultimate bucket list for this profession, that will transform you into the analyst of the future!

Danelkis Serra: Discovering Value - The Most Important Component of Agility 
There are many agile frameworks, or combinations of agile methodologies, however they should all have one main component in common – delivering value! In order to deliver value, one must communicate well and understand the true need of our stakeholders. Danelkis will be sharing some techniques she has utilized while working on agile teams, which will assist in discovering value and building collaboration.
 
Alan Koch: Agile Story Writing
User Stories are the primary way Agile teams capture their customers’ requirements and manage their work. Story-writing is a skill that every BA needs in the new Agile world. We will learn about Epics, User Stories and how to write good ones.
 
Tyna Heath: The Practical Agile B.A.
As more and more organizations move towards Agile processes, it is more important than ever to understand how the business analyst streamlines the requirements gathering process to ensure efficient and practical delivery of business solutions. Proper project initiation is the crucial first step. By understanding the business stakeholders core business needs, the financial benefit expected from the completed product can be successfully achieved. Once a product backlog has been defined, day-to-day facilitation of business decisions with the project team and product owners will be critical. To successfully fill the Agile BA role and properly support all Agile processes, a business analyst will need to develop key analytical and facilitation skills.
 
Mindy Bohannon - I'm a B.A. Girl in an Agile World
Is what a business analyst (BA) does on an agile project much different from what is done on a waterfall project? Yes and No. Do the three amigos include the analyst or not? It certainly does! Although how the work is done depends on the team and project. During this session we’ll review how the role of a BA on an agile project can vary, BAs impact the development team, and what makes a BA good at their jobs. All analysts bring excellent communication, collaboration, and trust to their work on project teams – but how we communicate and collaborate will differ. In small group discussions, and with the larger group of all attendees, we’ll discuss how BAs impact agile project success.

Bob the BA: Technical Requirements, Digital Transformation, and the Future of Business Analysis
More and more, roles in organizations demand more technical savvy. Everyone is talking about digital transformation. Technology is rapidly changing to meet those needs and in turn, is changing how we need to approach our roles and the requirements that drive product changes. The term “Technical requirements” is not an industry standard yet they seem to be cropping up more and more. What is the best way to handle these technical requirements? Who should own them? How can we analyze them? Are you ready for your technical future? Come join us for a fun-filled day to learn about technical requirements, discover what they really are, are not, and how to document them.
 
Robin Goldsmith: PM Skills for B.A.'s - Planning, Estimating, and Controlling B.A. Work
B.A.'s often lack enough time or resources to perform effective business analysis. The difficulty often starts with inadequately identifying the BA work they actually need to do and estimating the resources, effort, and duration needed. While these all seem like PM responsibilities, effective BAs also take responsibility. In this interactive session, learn to know better than the PM what BA work needs to be done, what it will take to accomplish it, and how to make sure it happens.
 
Nadine Millner: Visual Thinking
Given that written language originated from drawing and sketching, as an analyst, one needs to get back to the roots of communication and use visual thinking as a communication tool. This is especially true within a global context where language and understanding are not common or easily created. By developing the drawing and infographic skills of business analysts an improved communication mechanism is created. Guidelines are provided on how to create a visual vocabulary, how to incorporate this into business analysis work and how to work towards improved solutions. The toolkit that the analyst will need to carry with them is explored to ensure success in visual thinking. This technique enables analysts to create interactive sessions with participants whilst still delivering value to the process they are engaged in. The competencies of a visual thinker are explored, together with the various types of visual thinking that are possible. By following a process for visual thinking, it is possible to reduce the complexity business is faced with and develop a simplified presentation of information. Using visual thinking, the analyst creates an opportunity to be memorable and impactful.
 
Gladys Lam: Building a Data Driven Organization: What is Your Role?
Being data-driven means the company uses data to harness insights across its organization and then turns those insights into action to create competitive advantage and more productive processes. What does it take to turn your organization into a data-driven company? Believe it or not, it is not JUST about the data. This presentation will present the 5 key components in successfully becoming a data-driven organization, discuss the necessary infrastructure, and explore a high-level strategy.
