Turning 100 in 2021, the vibraphone is an amazing instrument which has triumphantly traversed an incredible array of musics, including swing, Latin jazz, serialism, minimalism, symphonic repertoire, and countless film and TV scores. Featured on the programs are a dozen contemporary composers, including two winners of a competition co-sponsored with New York Women Composers, helping with their musical creations to bring this marvelous metallophone, as well as the legacies of its renowned proponents, into the next century.
Centennial Vibes is presented in collaboration with the New Music Series at William Paterson University, and with the support of the Composers Guild of New Jersey.
Featured compositions include A Suite for Three Vibraphones composed by Peter Jarvis, Gene Pritsker, Anton Rovner, and a winner of a composition competition for members of New York Women Composers; plus solos, duos, and ensemble works by Lynn Bechtold, Carson Cooman, Dan Cooper, Payton MacDonald, Chris Opperman, Milica Paranosic, Faye-Ellen Silverman, as well as another winner of a composition competition for members of NYWC.
Each concert will be live-streamed on the Composers Concordance Facebook page.
