This workshop will teach participants basic cemetery preservation theory and skills. Activities will include a brief indoor portion geared towards understanding the historic context of cemeteries in Atlanta as well as theoretical concepts such as “do no harm,” “reversibility,” etc. The majority of the workshop is hands-on and will teach participants headstone cleaning, and basic re-setting of several monument types.

Participants will meet at the historic Bell Tower building located in the center of the cemetery. Most of the day will be spent outdoors, so dress for the weather and wear close-toed shoes. Bring a non-perishable lunch or snack. Limited parking is available along Oakland Avenue or in the cemetery lot at 342 MLK Drive. King Memorial MARTA station is a five minute walk from the main gate.
