Cemetery Documentation Workshop

Anne Arundel County legislation protects archaeological sites, historic buildings, cemeteries and scenic and historic roads whenever development is proposed. The Cultural Resources Division (CRD) in Anne Arundel County’s Office of Planning and Zoning is tasked with protecting these sites through development review. The team includes C. Jane Cox, Darian Beverungen, and Anastasia Poulos. The Cultural Resources Division works closely with non-profit partners to survey/document historic sites and cemeteries.Ms. Poulos, Archaeological Sites Planner, is responsible for review and protection of archaeology andcemeterysites and conducts long-term preservation planning studies, as well as provides the public with guidance on preservation stewardship for cemeteries and archaeology sites.The CRD fields cemetery questions daily about upkeep, ownership, development regulations, state/local laws, and historical information.  For more information, visit https://aacounty.org/cemeteries.

<P><SPAN>Become a Citizen Preservation Steward of Historic Cemeteries! </SPAN>Join the Anne Arundel County Cultural Resources Division, Preservation Maryland, & the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society at this half-day volunteer training workshop to learn how to document & report cemetery location and conditions. This training will introduce citizens to the County’s Preservation Stewardship Program and its partnership with Preservation Maryland’s Six-to-Fix Program. The event will include both a presentation and in-the-field, hands-on practice. Your help in this effort will enable us to better manage and protect these important historic resources.</P>
