She’ll also offer a legal update on recent developments related to the duty to accommodate students with disabilities, and share practical, real-world strategies for navigating common challenges. Drawing on her extensive experience, Sari will illustrate key lessons through “war stories” from the field — the good, the bad, and the avoidable — to help attendees deepen their understanding and sharpen their approach. Sari Springer - BioSari Springer has been practicing law for 35 years, beginning her career at Cassels Brock &amp; Blackwell LLP, where she developed a hybrid practice focused on management-side employment law and advising higher education institutions. Her work included representing colleges and universities in matters before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) and assisting with internal academic appeals. Over time, her practice evolved to include acting as lead counsel in complex, systemic discrimination cases before the HRTO on behalf of consortia of universities.After 25 years at Cassels, Sari became the Managing Partner of the Canadian office of Littler Mendelson P.C., the world’s largest employment and labour law firm. In that role, she expanded her practice to include numerous high-stakes and sensitive workplace investigations, while continuing to support the higher education sector on complex human rights and accommodation issues.In May 2023, Sari launched her own firm, PembertonLane PC, to chart a more independent course and focus primarily on high-stakes investigations and human rights work within postsecondary institutions. She brings a deep and practical understanding of the unique challenges facing colleges when accommodating students with disabilities, including retroactive accommodations, determining essential academic requirements, accommodating in clinical and placement settings, managing documentation and medical information, navigating perceived versus actual limitations, and balancing academic integrity with legal obligations. She is frequently called upon to advise on policy development, training, and accommodation frameworks that are both legally sound and student-centered.In addition to her legal practice, Sari is a sought-after speaker and educator, delivering workshops and presentations across Ontario on human rights, accommodation, and investigation protocols and best practices. https://www.pembertonlane.ca
