Catalyst Bio-Amendments of Nevada City, California are making a field trip to Reno, NV to teach our community how to farm with Microbes!

<h2>During this 8 hour workshop we will cover: </h2><ul><ul><li>I﻿ntro to the Soil Food Web.</li><li>T﻿he importance of Micro-Organisms (MICROBES), as well as their habitat and function. </li><li>Growing food with a microbial focus! Healthy soil, healthy plants, happy people!</li><li>Generating natural soil fertility.</li><li>L﻿and as a preservation site for microbes insects and animals.</li><li>Compost .</li><li>Pile Building.</li></ul><ul><li>Types of Composting and whats best for every situation</li><ul>Static, Passively turned food waste, Johnson Su, Thermophilic, Vermicompost, Black soldier fly.</ul><li>Compost materials storage and preparation. </li><li>Community resourcefulness. </li><li>W﻿ater (Moisture management) T﻿emps and Turns.</li><li>T﻿urning a pile, and smell troubleshooting. </li><li>M﻿icroscope Adventure</li><li>O﻿bserve Soils from local farms!</li><li>H﻿ow to use a microscope.</li><li>L﻿ook at Compost and Nematode Extract.</li><li>U﻿rban Nature walk to collect and observe permaculture garden soils. </li></ul><h3>A﻿bout Catalyst Bio-Amendments:</h3><ul>Keisha &amp; Casey Ernst have been focusing on soil regeneration and habitat restoration as a team since 2011. They have studied under Dr. Elaine Ingahm over the past 8 years and worked side by side with her on many projects. In 2018 Catalyst BioAmendments was founded as an experimental and educational focused compost lot. The aim was to apply the techniques taught by Dr. Ingham to compost made at large scale and to improve the processes to ensure the product is reliably hosting diverse populations of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes. Catalyst was successful in creating a biological focused product and since 2019 Keisha &amp; Casey have been using the compost with their consulting. They aim to raise the quality of food on shelves in grocery stores by helping farmers increase microbial biomass in their agricultural soils and to help microbe farmers world wide to improve their composting practices. Their main overarching focus is on fostering a community around microbe farming. They have a passion for helping the unseen lives in the soil come into view through images and videos taken with a microscope and hands on workshops where everyone can explore together. S﻿hoes that are good for composting and walking on pavement. G﻿arden gloves. S﻿oil from your garden, compost pile or favorite site in nature. A fresh sandwich bag sized sample should suffice. A﻿ notebook or camera for all the info of the day. We will have pens and paper available. </ul>A﻿ mask for pile turning.
