CarpentryCon 2018

The Carpentriesproject comprises theSoftware Carpentry,Data Carpentry, andLibrary Carpentrycommunities of Instructors, Trainers, Maintainers, helpers, and supporters who share a mission to teach foundational computational and data science skills to researchers. The Carpentries is a fiscally sponsored project ofCommunity Initiatives.The Carpentries builds global capacity in essential data and computational skills for conducting efficient, open, and reproducible research. We train and foster an active, inclusive, diverse community of learners and instructors that promotes and models the importance of software and data in research. We collaboratively develop openly-available lessons and deliver these lessons using evidence-based teaching practices. We focus on people conducting and supporting research.

The Carpentries

<A HREF="http://www.carpentrycon.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CarpentryCon 2018</A> is the key networking and community building event in The Carpentries' annual calendar. This <A HREF="http://www.carpentrycon.org/#prog" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">three-day event</A> will help develop the next generation of research leaders by providing practical skill-ups, networking, workshops and all kinds of discussions. 
Held at University College Dublin, this is a not-to-be-missed event!
Theme
The conference theme is "Building Locally, Connecting Globally".
This event will bring together newer and more experienced community members to share knowledge, to network, to develop new skills, and to develop strategies for building strong local communities. 
By running this event, we hope to improve people’s knowledge and skills so as to enhance research, research outcomes and research productivity across the board. We will provide ample opportunities for Instructors to network with each other to discuss teaching practices and other common areas of interest.
Diversity and Inclusion
We also want to widen the number of voices who can be heard there. We want to provide opportunities for people to attend from diverse geographies and communities. We will hold workshops and skill-ups not just on tools and skills but on fostering attitudes of openness, diversity, inclusivity and reproducibility, because those are just as essential as technical skills to research success.
