CARMEN
A fiery seductress drives a naive soldier to obsession and murder after leaving him for a charismatic toreador.
A Passionate Tale of Love, Freedom & Fate
A captivating woman, a soldier torn between duty and desire, and a passion that burns too brightly… What could possibly go wrong?
Step into the sun-drenched streets of Seville in Carmen, Georges Bizet’s iconic masterpiece where love is intoxicating, freedom is non-negotiable, and fate waits just around the corner. When the fiercely independent Carmen captures the attention of Don José, a dutiful soldier, he abandons everything he once held dear in pursuit of her love. But Carmen refuses to belong to anyone, and as her affections turn toward the charismatic bullfighter Escamillo, jealousy and obsession begin to spiral toward a tragic conclusion.
Filled with some of the most beloved music ever written, including the seductive Habanera, the spirited Toreador Song, and countless unforgettable melodies, Carmen remains one of the most celebrated operas in the world. Bizet’s vibrant score brings to life a world of passion, danger, and irresistible energy, while its timeless story continues to captivate audiences across generations.
Presented by L’Opéra Comique de Washington, this intimate production offers a fresh and compelling perspective on one of opera’s greatest works. Experience the drama, romance, and breathtaking music that have made Carmen a perennial favorite and a cornerstone of the operatic repertoire.
