Caregiving Essentials: First Steps (Part #1 Steps to Resilience; Part #2 Physical Care &amp; Safety)

This two-part workshop is for informal, non-paid family caregivers and touches upon common caregiver issues. In the morning, Part#1 Steps to Resilience, topics are discussed such as communication strategies, legal and financial matters, housing, memory care &amp; dementias, end of life planning, and many others. In Part #2 Physical Care &amp; Safety, we have an apartment like room which is set up to demonstrate and assist caregivers in learning proper body mechanics to not hurt your back, home safety and assistive devices, setting up an emergency plan and other useful topics.For questions, call Donna at Pima Council on Aging, (520) 790-7573 ext. 1750, ddeleon@pcoa.orgFor possible respite during training, call Arizona Caregiver Coalition 888.737.7494 or our Helpline 520-790-7262. NOTE: If staying for both, bring your own lunch. Only water and coffee will be available.In accordance with CDC guidelines, masking at PCOA facilities is recommended and encouraged for staff, volunteers, and members of the public. Masks will be available if needed at our front desks. CDC recommends people at high risk of serious illness from COVID 19 discuss when they should wear masks and other precautions with their healthcare provider. PCOA representatives will gladly put on a mask at your request. For the time being, food will not be permitted to be served indoors at our facilities. Participants at in-person event(s) will be expected to adhere to distancing and safety guidelines as provided. For small or large group settings where 6 feet of physical distance cannot be always maintained, masks will be required. Guidelines for functions held in community sites not operated by PCOA may vary.
