Caregiving Essentials: First Steps (Part #1 Steps to Resilience; Part #2 Physical Care &amp; Safety)

This two-part workshop is for informal, non-paid family caregivers and touches upon common caregiver issues. In the morning, Part#1 Steps to Resilience, topics are discussed such as communication strategies, legal and financial matters, housing, memory care &amp; dementias, end of life planning, and many others. In Part #2 Physical Care &amp; Safety, we have an apartment like room which is set up to demonstrate and assist caregivers in learning proper body mechanics to not hurt your back, home safety and assistive devices, setting up an emergency plan and other useful topics.

Workshop 1: Steps to Resilience(9:00am – 12:30pm) • Stress Management Tools • Communication Strategies • Alzheimer’s &amp; other dementias • Nutrition, Hydration &amp; Assistance with Eating • Psychological &amp; Emotional Conditions • Grief &amp; End of Life Resources • Managing Medications • Phone and Technology Use • Housework/ Laundry Services • Driving Concerns • Finances &amp; Legal ResourcesWorkshop 2: Physical Care and Safety(1:00 – 3:30pm) • Proper Body Mechanics • Home Environment Safety &amp; Fall Prevention • Planning for an Emergency • Understanding Assistive Devices • Proper Walking /Transferring techniques • Re-positioning with reassessment • Activity Planning, Outings and Car Etiquette • Infection control and providing Personal Care For possible respite during training, call Arizona Caregiver Coalition 888.737.7494 or our Helpline 520-790-7262.NOTE: If staying for both, bring your own lunch.
