DahShu: Promote research and education in data science

DahShu and Houzz will host a dinner event with a panel discussion on career development in Data &amp; Analytics. The goal is to give our members some practical guide on making the right choice for their career, and how to be successful and happy in their career. A panel of highly experienced data scientists from Houzz will share their experience, answer questions, alleviate concerns, and clarify confusions each attendee may have.
 
When: May 19th, 6-7:30 pm

 Panelists
 1. Sean O'Brien
Sean O'Brien is the team lead for Analytics &amp; Data infrastructure at Houzz.  Starting his career on the engineering side but always close to data, he loves finding was for insights and data driven technology to move a business forward.  In the last 4 years, he has built the platform and teams that allow Houzz to collect rich data about user engagement &amp; behavior and turn it into actionable insights for the business.  Prior to Houzz, Sean started his career at Google understanding the properties of Google index that are most critical for powering search and at Groupon he built the first scalable platform for personalizing emails and ranking deals on Groupon.com 
 2. Dan Liu
Dan Liu is a Principle Data Scientist at Houzz. She has built the experimental testing platforms at Houzz. Her main focus areas include matching algorithms to connect professionals and homeowners, causal impact analysis of marketing campaigns, pricing models and other advanced statistical modeling. Prior to Houzz, she was a Staff Quantitative Analyst at Google, and spent 7 years in Ads Quality working on various projects such as ads auction, pricing, CTR prediction, etc. Dan obtained her B.E. and M.S. in Control Theory and Engineering from the Automation Department in Tsinghua University, and earned a Ph.D. in Computational Neuroscience from UC San Diego.  
3. Mark Mao
Mark Mao is a Research Scientist at Houzz, leading research in Computer Vision. His team has developed and launched Visual Match, a tool that uses deep learning to detect and classify objects in photos and find visually similar products from the Houzz Marketplace.  Before joining Houzz, Dr. Mao spent 10 years in Google, where he has worked in diverse areas of Machine Learning, including Speech Recognition, Deep Learning and Search. Dr. Mao received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
