About this event

CARE? WHERE?!: a six-week workshop for reimagining care, power & presence together!

CARE? WHERE?! is a practice space for those asking:What does care look like when we stop performing and start practicing?

Over six weeks, we’ll move through the raw terrain of what it means to care—for ourselves, each other and the spaces we shape—mindful of how perfectionism, performance and pretending we’ve got it all figured out impact our capacity to do so.

Together, we’ll tend to the messy, complex, beautiful truths of care: its absences, its ruptures, its repair, its contradictions. We’ll get curious about power, capacity, consent, control, vulnerability, grief and the parts of us shaped by colonization that still vying for a power rooted in white supremacy, rather than.

This is a workshop, not a blueprint. It’s about building a relationship with your needs while learning how to hold space for others. It’s about naming your patterns without shame. It’s about being in conversation with the tools you already have—and growing the ones you don’t—through honesty, friction and creative practice.

This workshop will take place in two separate cohorts virtually via Zoom:

  • Everybody (Every Monday, July 21-August 25, 7-9pm ET)
  • Black Folks Only (Every Thursday, July 24-August 28, 7-9pm ET)

Who It’s For

This space is made for:

  • Small collectives and organizers who want more fluid, imaginative tools for facilitation care.
  • Black queer and trans leaders with strong visions who want to soften, open and experiment.
  • People craving deeper collaboration, mutual learning and embodiment in their group work.

We especially welcome those who:

  • Want to examine their patterns of inflexibility or over-responsibility.
  • Learn best through inquiry, experience and co-creation.
  • Are curious about play as pedagogy.

Who It’s Not For

This may not be the right fit for:

  • Folks uninterested in self-reflection.
  • Those who prefer rigid curriculum over emergent exploration.
  • People looking for traditional facilitation training with hierarchical structure.

Who is Facilitating?

foster (she/they) is a fat black queer and trans low femme dyke ass nigga and baptist ass bitch who comes from country folk (afrolachia and caroline county). foster co-stewards Play Church, an arts-based laboratory for black queer and trans communal experimentation, failure and non-destinational play as a portal into tiny glimpses of pre-colonial possibility.

foster cherishes the rich, bitter medicine of grief. they work to become what their beloved ancestor, Cicely Rogers, calls a “practiced practicer” at the values they espouse. foster fails everyday at relationships, her values, recipes and many things and accepts that failure as proof of practice. she has survived and perpetuated sexual harm (review this document for more information: bit.ly/fppcv). She shares this because while harm is commonplace, our ability to name it is far less common. foster believes that in naming our harm we can create more openings for tending, repair and new possibilities for the collective, our lineages and ourselves.

foster is a 2025-26 North Carolina Dance Festival Artist-in-Residence, a 2024-25 Grounded Possibility Fellow and a 2025-26 SEEK Raleigh Artist. foster hopes that we all work, pray and fight for a free palestine/falasteen, a free haiti/ayiti, a free sudan, a free tigray, a free congo-kinshasa, free black folks everywhere, free colonized bodies, beings and biospheres. can they get an amen? (only if you black tho)
