Care Package: A Poetry Reading to Celebrate Jennifer Huang's RETURN FLIGHT

Care PackageJENNIFER HUANGKEMI ALABIJENNY QI COURTNEY FAYE TAYLORMARCH 3, 2022Thursday, 7 p.m. A reading to celebrate Jennifer Huang&#x27;s debut poetry collection, Return Flight, alongside three phenomenal poets Kemi Alabi, Jenny Qi, and Courtney Faye Taylor. In conceiving this reading Jennifer says, &quot;I came to &#x27;Care Package&#x27; while thinking about grief and love and reading/writing poems as a way through difficulty—especially in this pandemic time.&quot; We hope this event can be a &quot;care package&quot; for you, and anyone in your life who needs the solace of four brilliant poets reading their exquisite new work. _________________________________Jennifer Huang is the author of Return Flight, which was awarded the 2021 Ballard Spahr Prize for Poetry from Milkweed Editions. Their poems have appeared in POETRY, The Rumpus, and Narrative Magazine, among other places; and they have received recognition from the Academy of American Poets, Brooklyn Poets, North American Taiwan Studies Association, and more. In 2020, Jennifer earned their M.F.A. in Poetry at the University of Michigan Helen Zell Writers&#x27; Program. Born in Maryland to Taiwanese immigrants, they have since called many places home.Kemi Alabi is author of Against Heaven (Graywolf Press, 2022), selected by Claudia Rankine as winner of the Academy of American Poets First Book Award. Their work appears in Poetry, the Atlantic, Best New Poets, Redivider as winner of the 2020 Beacon Street Prize, and elsewhere. Coeditor of The Echoing Ida Collection (Feminist Press, 2021), they live in Chicago, IL.Jenny Qi is the author of Focal Point, winner of the 2020 Steel Toe Books Poetry Award. Her essays and poems have been published in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and elsewhere, and she has received fellowships and support from Tin House, Omnidawn, Kearny Street Workshop, and the San Francisco Writers Grotto. Born in Pennsylvania to Chinese immigrants, she grew up mostly in Las Vegas and Nashville and now lives in San Francisco, where she completed her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology. She is working on more essays and poems and translating her late mother’s memoirs of the Chinese Cultural Revolution and immigration to the U.S.Courtney Faye Taylor is a writer and visual artist. She is the author of Concentrate, forthcoming from Graywolf Press in November 2022. It is the winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize selected by Rachel Eliza Griffiths and was a finalist for the National Poetry Series. Through found texts, visual collages, poems and micro essays, Concentrate considers the life of Latasha Harlins—a fifteen-year-old Black girl killed by Korean American grocer, Soon Ja Du, in 1991. A graduate of Agnes Scott College and the University of Michigan Helen Zell Writers&#x27; Program, Courtney is also the winner of the 92Y Discovery Prize and an Academy of American Poets Prize. Her writing can be found in Poetry Magazine, Kenyon Review, The Nation, Ploughshares, Best New Poets, and elsewhere.
