Wanted: Junior Sailors to Join Our Crew!


Become a part of our junior Schoonmaker crew during Captain Scupper’s Crew Life, presented by The Andersons. On Saturday, June 8, take part in a guided tour ideal for ages 8-12 exploring the various jobs onboard a lake freighter.


  • Explore a day in the life of crew members on a lake freighter.
  • Learn more about the type of careers and necessary work to support the Great Lakes shipping industry now and through the years.

Mix education with fun during this small group activity for school-aged visitors.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Registration is required and FREE for members* or included with the price of museum-ship combo admission (Children 0-5 FREE, Youth ages 6-17 $14; Adults $17, Seniors 65+ $16). Day of signup is only available if space remains.


  • This program is offered on Saturday, June 8 at various times including 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.
  • Each group is limited to 15 - 20 individuals.
  • The activity is not a drop off program, kids need to be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.
  • This program is an eligible free program for Museums for All participants.**
